Red Dot Pistol I (TCOLE #2529)

Description

Pistol red dot optics are gaining in popularity in the shooting world.  Most shooters encounter a learning curve with pistol red dots.  This two-day class will teach the attendees on how to properly present the pistol and to be able to take advantage of what the red dot pistol optics offer.

Please Note: Due to ongoing liability concerns with the Sig Sauer P320 platform and all variants, the platform is no longer permitted to be used during training provided by the Pearland Police Department.

Student Prerequisites:

  • Not prohibited by state or federal law or rule from attending training related to firearms or from possessing a firearm.
  • Never had a license or certificate issued by the Commission suspended or revoked.
  • Currently hold an Instructor Certificate of Proficiency issued by the Commission.
  • Currently employed or designated by the agency chief administrator or academy coordinator as a firearms instructor.
  • Have at least three years’ experience as either a law enforcement officer or a firearms instructor.
  • Length of Course: 40 hours minimum

    Required Equipment:

    • Firearm and ammunition (Duty handgun and .12-gauge shotgun-reputable brand such as Winchester/Remington)
    • Safety equipment (ear and eye protection)
    • Baseball type hat
    • Firearm cleaning equipment
    • 250 rounds bird shot (12-gauge)
    • 35 rounds slug (12 gauge)
    • 35 rounds 00 Buck (12-gauge)
    • 500 rounds ball ammunition for duty gun you will be shooting in the class.
    • 100 rounds .38 special
    • Please Note: Due to ongoing liability concerns with the Sig Sauer P320 platform and all variants, the platform is no longer permitted to be used during training provided by the Pearland Police Department.

    Assessment: 

    The student will be required to shoot two courses of fire (handgun and shotgun) on the first day of the course with a minimum of 90% (2 attempts). If the student is unable to achieve 90% within the allowed attempts, the student will be dismissed and not be allowed to participate in the course.

    Qualifications will take place on Sunday, December 14, 2025, at 0800 hours

    A comprehensive written examination must be given; it will be supplemented by a skills proficiency demonstration. The student will also be required to conduct a live fire range sessions and be skills evaluated on a pass/fail basis. These live fire range sessions will be 15 minutes in length for both the Handgun and Shotgun.

    Unless otherwise indicated, the minimum passing score shall be 80%.

    Ability to carry three spare pistol mags in an easily accessible manner.  Such as mag pouches on a duty belt.
