Course design and safety issues are taught as well as principles of marksmanship\, rifle nomenclature and operation. The course emphasizes teaching weapons manipulation and training personnel to fight with a rifle at what are traditionally considered handgun ranges and stand-off distances up to 150 yards. The course is based on the AR-15/M-4/M-16 weapons platform.
